Manizales, 171 Years of History
Before its foundation, Manizales was inhabited in pre-Columbian times by Quimbayas, Armas, Ansermas, Pícaras, Zopias, Pácura, Cacicazgos, and Carrapas. The foundation of Manizales took place on October 12, 1849, as a result of the Antioquian colonization. Our colonizers, tearing down mountains and facing the challenges of the terrain, forged what we are today.
This year marks the 171st anniversary of our city, and today we are one of the regions with the greatest biodiversity in the world, hosting major cultural events such as the Manizales Fair?considered the best fair in the Americas?and the Manizales International Theater Festival, among others.
We grew on the edge of the mountain, and the development of the capital of Caldas over these years has been immense. In fact, today Manizales ranks as the third most competitive departmental capital in the country, only behind Bogotá and Medellín Metropolitan Area.
Our cultural richness, architectural heritage, historic center, and eco-parks, among other attractions, make us the destination that has it all.
In addition, our resilience in the face of adversity has become our signature, and we?ve proven it throughout history?overcoming disasters such as the fires of 1922, 1925, and 1926, which destroyed a large part of the city of Manizales, including our old cathedral.
Happy Birthday, Manizales!

We join the celebration of these 171 years since the founding of our beautiful Manizales, a city that opened its heart and its doors so we could live here?enjoying moments of peace and rest, important business meetings, and exploring its biodiversity and tourist attractions.
We are the city of open doors, and at Hotel Benidorm we are ready to welcome you, with all biosecurity measures in place. Remember, we are your second home in Manizales!
