New Year in Manizales

The city of Manizales welcomes the 65th Manizales Fair, which will take place from January 2nd to 10th with multiple activities for adults and children, filled with culture, sports, theater, bullfighting, and exhibitions.
The Manizales Fair is the first and the largest, most important, and emblematic fair on the American continent. Centered around the Bullfighting Festival that attracts major national and international figures with authentic bullfighting shows, the Manizales Fair is renowned for its bullfighting season, its events, concerts, exhibitions, and the International Coffee Queen Pageant, parades, folk music performances, and many other events offered by this epic fair in its extensive program full of grand activities. It is worth noting that this annual celebration is considered the best, the only one, and the great first fair of all the Americas.
This fair has Spanish roots and is inspired by the April Fair of Seville in Spain, adopting several of its customs, though it also incorporates many traditions from the Coffee Region?especially from the Andean region. (wikipedia, 2021)
With the celebration of the city's centenary, the fair began in 1951, with a parade of ?manolas? in carriages and an eye-catching bullfighting billboard as the prelude to what this festivity has become today.
Initially, it was decided to hold the fair on the last weekend of January, based on studies conducted by the organizing committee, but by its 14th edition, it was moved to the first week of the month (and is still held at this time).
For the year 2022, and after a year of suspension due to Covid-19, this festivity will feature party tents with performances by international artists from various genres, distributed throughout much of the city; the well-known Fondas and ?arrierías?, artistic, cultural, and sports exhibitions for all audiences, and for the first time in the history of the fair, street theater and free access to all events organized by the City Hall.
In its 50th edition, the International Coffee Queen Pageant features 28 contestants, with the notable inclusion of participants from Hong Kong and the Philippines, and the essential bullfighting fair, which in its 65th edition stands out as the most important in Colombia.
