Sports in Manizales
The Olympic Games are the largest sporting event in the world, bringing together athletes from all around the globe, with more than two hundred nations participating.
The modern Olympic Games are inspired by the 8th-century B.C. Olympic Games held in Greece. They have been celebrated since 1896 every four years in various cities around the world. They were only canceled in 1916, 1940, and 1944 due to the outbreak of the First and Second World Wars, and were postponed in 2020 to 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
More than 40 disciplines are featured in this tournament, including Athletics, Baseball, Basketball, Boxing, Cycling, Fencing, Skiing, Soccer, Gymnastics, Weightlifting, Hockey, Judo, Swimming, Skating, and Tennis, among others.

Palogrande Stadium
With a capacity of over 40,000 spectators, Palogrande Stadium is the most important sports complex in Manizales. It includes six additional venues (Palogrande Stadium, Jorge Arango Uribe Main Coliseum, Ramón Marín Vargas Minor Coliseum, Skating and Hockey Rink, Caldas Tennis League, and Luis Fernando Montoya Synthetic Field).
This sports venue was completed around 1994 and owes its name to a large tree that once stood in the area. It features four stands named according to their location and includes covered seating.
Besides being the home of the city?s football team Once Caldas?football being the most practiced sport here?it has also hosted major sports and artistic events.
Jorge Arango Uribe Main Coliseum
Built by Jorge Arango Uribe in 1950, it is the main basketball venue in Manizales and has a capacity of 5,000 spectators.
Ramón Marín Vargas Minor Coliseum
Named after former Caldas governor Ramón Marín Vargas.
Various disciplines are practiced here, such as Volleyball, Taekwondo, Judo, Capoeira, and Futsal, with seating for 1,000 spectators.
Skating and Hockey Rink
This venue is home to the Manizales Hockey Club, a sports circle promoting roller hockey among children, youth, and adults.
Caldas Tennis League
Located in the Palogrande sports complex, it features three clay tennis courts.
Olympic Pool at Bosque Popular
The city?s Olympic Pool is located in Bosque Popular El Prado. This aquatic complex includes heating, changing rooms, and showers, as well as two lifeguards to assist visitors.
It measures 50 meters in length, 25 meters in width, and 2.5 meters in depth. It has eight lanes and is open to the public every day of the week.
Swimming, triathlon, and aquathlon competitions have been held at this venue.
